What do we hope to achieve on this show?
This will be a fantastic opportunity for a wide range of people to come and see the amazing skills and mastery of traditional Shaolin Kung Fu and authentic Chen Style Tai Chi. Also important is spreading the word of Shaolin Kung Fu & Tai Chi for the Centre and encouraging more people to take up either Shaolin Kung Fu or Chen Style Tai Chi.
What are the special high lights that will be in the show?
This is a high standard professional show that Shaolin Kung Fu will be seen combined with the original style of Tai Chi – Chen Style Tai Chi on the same stage, at the same time and at such a high level of performance here in the UK.
Is Chen Style Tai Chi a Kung Fu or just an exercise for health?
Originally, Chen Style Tai Chi was designed for self-defence, based on the traditional family Martial Arts in the birthplace of Tai Chi – Chen Jiagou village in China. It contains all of the self-defence applications in the Hand Form, Weapons and Push Hands, and is a complete system of Kung Fu. Recently, the soft part of Tai Chi has been broadly distributed worldwide as a very effective system of health exercises. Unfortunately, the hard, energy release part of Tai Chi has almost been left out from the forms with other styles of Tai Chi, the exception being Chen Style Tai Chi. When Tai Chi is practised with a soft flowing aspect of movement, the health benefits are great. When practised using both dynamic and the softer aspects of movement, self-defence application and health benefits are even more profound. This then forms the complete system of Yin and Yang of Tai Chi.
What is the different between Shaolin Kung Fu & Chen Style Tai Chi?
Shaolin Kung Fu represents the external Martial Arts and Tai Chi is considered as an internal Martial Arts Kung Fu. Both are very effective Martial Arts systems.
Shaolin Kung Fu shows more aspects of the hard, powerful and fast external movements, and Tai Chi shows more soft, gentle and slow internal movements. The Shaolin Kung Fu training progresses from hard to soft, which are then combined at the end. Tai Chi training starts with a soft approach, and progresses to hard, and then combines both at the end. The high level of ultimate Kung Fu skill for Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi are the same. Both softness and hardness are essential for Martial Arts Kung Fu, and it is only the approach of training method that varies to reach the final goal for its effective and powerful application.
